I also installed the Jardine recently (about 500 miles ago), and my pipe has also started to turn a golden color, but I don't find it offensive. As a matter of fact, the entire pipe could turn purple and I wouldn't care. The sound brings the pleasure of riding the Savage to a higher level.
With regards to that gasket, I didn't even see it in there, so I didn't use it. I used some hi-temp silicone as per Jardine's instructions, and it seems to be working fine so far.
